Best known for its: large white crepe-like summer flowers, cold tolerance, high mildew resistance, exceptional mottled bark, prolonged flowering
Plant family + type: Lythraceae - large deciduous summer flowering tree
Origin: United States National Arboretum Introduction. A cross originating in 1964 of L. indica PINK LACE x L. fauriei. Selected in 1969. Introduced in 1978.
Mildew resistance: high
Growth habit: deciduous, tall, upright, broad, vigorous
Flower color: white with recurrent blooms
Foliage: glossy, dark green
Bark: exfoliating, mottled, dark reddish-brown and cream
Autumn foliage color: vibrant shades of yellow to reddish-orange
Blooming period: summer, autumn for approximately 110 days
Preferences: full sun, well-drained soils, good air circulation, soil pH: 5.0-6.5
Excellent choice for: specimen, summer flowering accent tree, groves, winter gardening
