Best known for its: distinctive weeping, pendulous growth habit, bright white crepe-like summer flowers, cold tolerance, high mildew resistance, attractive bark, prolonged flowering.
Plant family + type: Lythraceae - small deciduous summer flowering tree/shrub
Origin: United States National Arboretum Introduction. Originated in 1969 from a cross of L. indica Pink Lace x (L. indica x L. fauriei seedling). Selected in 1972. Introduced in 1986.
Mildew resistance: high
Growth habit: deciduous, semi-pendulous, semi-dwarf, multi-stemmed, distinctive graceful effect
Flower color: snow white, long-tapered pendulous panicles, golden anthers
Foliage: dark green, semi-glossy, dark bronze cast on new foliage
Bark: light gray & brown
Autumn foliage color: shades of dark purple and red
Blooming period: summer, autumn
Preferences: full sun, well-drained soils, good air circulation, soil pH: 5.0-6.5
Excellent choice for: specimen, flowering accent shrub/tree, groves, screens, white gardens
